Promoting Appropriate Utilization in an Era of Increasing Patient Cost Sharing
There has been a substantial growth in the range of consumer directed health care plan (CDHP) products marketed to employers and individuals. A major concern about these products, however, is that large increases in cost sharing could cause individuals to forego necessary medical services, with the largest impact felt by those with lower incomes and chronic medical conditions. Because these programs are relatively new, limited evidence about their impact is currently available. This meeting examined how these programs are currently working with presentations from health plans and researchers examining the most recent utilization trends in these programs.
