Improving Evidence for Decision Making: Future Strategies for U.S. Technology Assessment
There has been growing interest among policymakers in establishing or funding a more extensive health technology assessment (HTA) capability in the U.S. similar to initiatives underway in other developed countries. This conference began with an overview of HTA in the U.S., and in Europe. It then examined practical challenges of evidence development and of using evidence for decision making from the perspective of both payers and patients. Participants engaged in a broad debate about potential opportunities and concerns about funding an expanded HTA capacity in the U.S.
