Optimizing Information Under Coverage With Evidence Development
Policymakers responsible for coverage decisions want to provide access to valuable new medical therapies while limiting expenditures on those that are ineffective, unsafe, or unproven. One approach now being considered is “Coverage with Evidence Development” (CED), a policy that allows access to a new therapy while systematically collecting observational data through clinical or administrative registries. The Evidence Workgroup met to address three key issues for CED policy development: 1) how well can prospective registries or other observational techniques provide the necessary evidence for decision makers; 2) how should registries be designed to provide optimal information; and 3) who should fund their development and monitoring.
