On November 9, 2012, Senior Fellow Robert Mechanic was interviewed by New England Journal of Medicine Managing Editor, Stephen Morrissey, regarding the challenges and potential benefits of Medicare's new bundled-payment program. The interview (listen here) coincided with the release of Mechanic's November 15, 2012, perspective paper in The New England Journal of Medicine entitled "Lessons Learned Preparing for Medicare Bundled Payments."
On October 24, 2012, Senior Fellow Robert Mechanic was interviewed on WNPR's Conversations on Healthcare. During the program, Mechanic discussed cost containment efforts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, particularly through the lens of an October 2012 Health Affairs article of which he was the lead author. He notably examined the role of Accountable Care Organizations and the creation of an Independent Health Policy Commission as impacting health care spending.
The New England Journal of Medicine, in its August 24, 2011 online edition, published a new paper by Robert Mechanic on episode-based payment for medical services. Entitled "Opportunities and Challenges for Episode-based Payment", the article examines how episode-based payment can help hospitals and physicians create more integrated care delivery models.
